What you should know about Timaru Farmers Market

Food in Timaru, Market in Timaru, Farmers Market in Timaru

Timaru Farmers Market was born out of the Transition Towns Timaru Movement and opened in November 2009. It is a not for profit organisation, developed and run by a group of volunteer committee members. There was a collective recognition of the need for local, fresh produce, and a place for local individuals, businesses and organisations to showcase their creative foody talents. A hard working committee got the whole project up and running in just 3 months from idea conception to reality.
In 2010 the committee created the position of the market manager to oversee the everyday running of the market and provide service to customers and a growing number of stall holders alike

I love being piece of a great group of people bringing a growing Farmers Market to Timaru. For those who haven't been before, at the market you can find Fresh seasonal fruit, veges, cheese, organic goodies such as honey and eggs, meat, value added product, baking and treats, warm food and drinks. Throughout the week, the Market Manager co ordinates upcoming markets, market promotion and expansion. On the 23rd December 2014 we will be having a Twilight Market between 4 7pm. Farmers markets are also a huge way of having a wee protest against large corporate mass producers while supporting your local economy.
I was accepted onto the committee final year and have enjoyed seeing the market grow. Being portion of the local Farmers' Market committee seemed like a believable way to show my support for local producers and allows me to play an energetic role in my community. Wildberry Farm Vegetables, Tomatoes, Eggs, Preserves, Salad ingredients, Berries On the Community Stall. 'Keeps on Growing' Arrive See us at 27 Strathallan St The Community House Car parks every Saturday.
I am also a member of the Timaru Transition Towns Committee and a authentic believer encouraging the development of sustainable communities. My support for the Farmers Market is to enable local producers to derive a reasonable return for their goods whilst providing consumers with access to food with integrity Joanne Brownie I was a volunteer on the community stall at the market and was asked to unite the committee when another committee member left to live in Australia. I really appreciate the passions of the people we interact with at the Market and everlasting make the maximum of the opportunity to stock up on the deliciously new fruit and veggies. We wish to ensure shoppers the superior of the superior so if you are passionate about your product, love talking with people and getting to know your customers then the market is the deposit for you. Local farmers growers with whom you can talk to and find out everything you need to know about what you are buying.
This is a current year round list of stallholders that have been to the market on more than one occasion. You can find us at 27 Strathallan Street, where we are using the car park of the Community House. The idea of being capable to purchase very new food, locally grown, from someone I know and can talk to, who have grown or produced the food item themselves is a big plus to me. The Timaru Farmers Market, is run by a Not for Benefit Committee, of volunteers. All Committee Members are actively involved with the running of the market, sharing the duty of occupied at the Community Stall on Saturday mornings with the Market Manager.
I love the concept of farmers markets, supporting local producers, being qualified to talk to the grower of your veges, emphasizing the need to purchase what is in season rather than trying to have every fruit and veg available all year round. We here, in Timaru, are a passionate bunch about beautiful, local, delicious food, yield and drink
